What qualifies as head of household?

I know that dependants is a qualifier but is their anything else, I just wont be able to survive and pay living exp if am garnished at 25%. Looked into bankruptcy but of course got to pay before garnishment would be stopped which not possible. Can you file for bankruptcy w/o lawyer?
